Cubs lose out to Yankees on Juan Soto

The Chicago Cubs will not be trading for all-world left-handed slugger Juan Soto.

Mega Stud Juan Soto

The Chicago Cubs have missed out on stud outfielder Juan Soto.  Soto was traded to the New York Yankees on Wednesday for 5 players in a trade that gives the Bombers an outfield that could hit 130 Home Runs.  Soto has one year left on his contract and is currently just a rental player.  The price tag was indeed high, 5 players were sent in exchange for the talented 25-year-old.  But holy shit can he hit.  He has the 5th best slash line of anyone his age in MLB history.  Better than Bonds.  Up there with Mantle.  The man is an absolute menace at the dish.

But this is a Cubs article, so what the hell does this have to do with the North side?  Well for starters, WE DIDN’T GET HIM.  The top hitter in the league was available to get in your clubhouse and the Cubs did jack shit.  Ohtani is available and according to Jerry Reinsdorf’s lapdog, Bob NIghtingale, the Cubs are out on him as well.  The Cubs want everyone to believe they are a top-class organization.  I don’t see it.  “They are the Chicago Freaking Cubs” as David Kaplan likes to point out.  But what does that mean??  The Cubs are not the Yankees.  Not the Dodgers.  Not the Red Sox.  They have no history of great success.  They will spend, i.e. Soriano and Heyward, but often on the wrong player.  From 2015 to 2019 they were the class of the MLB, but that only resulted in ONE World Series! One! I know it’s greedy but that team was special.  The fan based now wants more. We spend money like a perennial contender. Management and ownership should act the same way.  The minors are loaded.  You went out like a thief in the night and swiped Craig Counsel away from the league.  You make moves to boost our spirits and garner hope and attention.  Now please go ahead and make a giant splash to make yourselves Yankee-esque.  It’s ok.  Give it a shot.  You can afford it.
